Benefits of Team Building Activities for Kids
Team building activities are vital at all stages of life, but for children, the benefits can carry them through childhood and adulthood. Team-building activities for kids allow them to learn how to communicate with their peers. Children develop important life skills like problem-solving, listening, leadership, and creative thinking by working as a team. Nurturing teamwork skills also develops self-confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and compassion. Check out these tips for promoting teamwork skills and the benefits of team building at any age!
Toddlers: You might be surprised to know that children as young as 2 and 3 years of age can grasp, and benefit, from team-building activities. It’s true! Studies show that children as young as 3 years old understand and appreciate the value of teamwork. Between the ages of 2 and 3 children start playing with one another rather than side by side. Activities like Duck, Duck, Goose, and Parachute games are perfect for introducing and encouraging teamwork at this age.
Preschoolers: At this age, children are not only more capable of engaging in team-building activities, they’re much more interested in playing in a group with their peers. Group activities like Red Rover, Balloon Toss, and introductions to team sports can help strengthen and develop team-building skills at this age.
Grade Schoolers: Children who are grade school age have much more exposure to working in small and large groups for various reasons. In-school projects, organized sports, and after-school activities will introduce kids to lots of different groups of people. To help strengthen your grade schooler’s problem-solving and communication skills, get them involved in activities that promote teamwork, like sports programs or volunteering as part of a group.
